Document Summary

Natural selection can"t (cid:449)ork if there is no (cid:448)ariation. Is an anatomical structure, physiological process or behavioural trait of an organism that has evolved over a period of time by the process of natural selection that increases the expected long-term reproductive success of the organism. Variation (diversity) within a species: variation among individuals in a population of that species, morphological variation in deer mice, variation follows a bell curve. Many populations exhibit polymorphism (multiple forms) e. g. elder-flowered. Phenotypic variation may be environment or genetics in origin (i. e. not all variation is inherited) Phenotypic: an individual observable characteristics or traits. Genetic variation: is the raw material of evolution, only genetic can be passed on, must have variation in a population & that variation must be inherited. European map butterflies are: are genetically identical at the loci for coloration. Color changes due to seasonal difference in hormonal level: identical sequence.
