Document Summary

These are called sinuses and filled with venous blood. : potential space=epidural (1st layer + skull) or subdural (2nd layer + arachnoid) Major sinuses: superior sagittal sinus, inferior sagittal sinus, straight sinus, transverse sinus, petrosal sinus, great vein of galen comes out of straight sinus. Arachnoid: thin, avascular, attaches to dura via flattened cells. Arachnoid trabeculae: collagenous connective tissue connects to pia. Subarachnoid cisterns: areas of csf pooling. (does not follow pia): superior cistern (above cerebellum, interpeduncular (between pons and telen, pontomedullary (pons and medulla, cisterna magna (cerebellomedullary, lumbar. Bridging vein: goes from subarachnoid space into venous sinus. Pia: delicate attached to brain, dips in sulci. Flow: lateral 3rd 4th subarachnoid space (absorbed into system through arachnoid granulations, into venous sinus). Flow: lateral interventricular formina of monroe 3rd aqueduct of sylvius 4th cistern magna + pontine cistern (little wings on 4th) arachnoid space granulations venous sinus. 3 main barriers: at level of arachnoid villi tight junctions.
