Society - the people, the living members of the group, who share a common culture - identity, language, and territory. Identity and language transcends to all places: still a canadian in europe - don"t need to (cid:271)e in the geography. Norms, beliefs, values, and language - components of culture, have a material and non material component: material - physical objects - technology, that humans have created/used. Sure - stop at stop sign - stop sign - material: non material - ideas - body of knowledge/norms/beliefs/values/language. Norms - rules that describe behaviour/shared rules and guidelines that carry sanctions. 3 types of norms - vary in importance and sanctions against them. San(cid:272)tion doesn"t threaten the survival of the group. Conduct that threatens well being of the group.
