Substance use - low to moderate use: no functional dysfunction, doesn"t matter if its legal or illegal, substance use disorders, patterns of maladaptive behaviour involving the use of a psychoactive substance. Substance abuse disorders: over indulging on the substance, not just a few puffs or a few drinks, but are not dependent on the drug to function. Substance use disorder: recurrent use -> damaging consequences, continued drug use despite the knowledge that is causes/contributes to recurrent problems.
