Identify and correct distorted thoughts: take one thought away and replace it with something good, learn more adaptive behaviours. Biological approach: antidepressant drugs, first generation, tcas -- interferes with reuptake of norepinephrine, maois -- increase availability of nts by inhibiting action of monoamine oxidase which degrades nts, second generation. Fewer and milder side effects: headaches, sexual dysfunction, sleep difficulty etc.
