Document Summary

Methods of measuring physical and mental variation. Individual"s relatives were a better predictor of intelligence than practice and effort. Cattell found out that having exceptional eyesight seemed to signify little about whether one would have exceptional hearing. If two measures don"t correlate well with each other, then they can"t both be indicators of the same thing (intelligence) Cattell also found that student"s scores on the sensory tests did not predict their grades, which one would expect would also be an indicator of intelligence. Galton"s approach to measuring intelligence was generally abandoned. Ability to think, understand, reason, and adapt to or overcome obstacles. Average intellectual ability score for children of a specific age. 7 year old with mental age of 7=average. 10 year old with mental age of 8=below average. Intelligence should be indicated by more complex thinking processes, such as memory, attention, and comprehension. Intelligence reflects how well people are able to reason and solve problems, plus their accumulated knowledge.
