Transduction: brain must be provided with info about external world. Sense organs (eyes, ears, skin, etc. ) detect specific types of sensory stimuli and transmit that info to the brain. Doctrine of specific nerve energies: diff senses processed in diff parts of brain. Brain interprets wherw the body is being stimulated. Brain interprets what sensory stimuli is being stimulated. Sensory adaption: sensory receptors are less active after repetition. Signal detection: perception of a stimulus depends on. Fat lens: focus on close items (bends a lot) Skinny lens: focuses on far away items (bends a little) Controls how much light goes through the pupil. Retina: patch of sensory receptors at back of the eye. Receptors away from center report of peripheral part. Ganglion cell layer, bipolar cell level, photoreceptor layer.
