One ulimate moral principle called the principle of uility. Principle of uility: when choosing between two alternaives, we must choose the one that has the best overall consequences for all involved. Bentham was the leader of a group of philosophical radicals whose aim was to reform the laws and insituions of england along uilitarian lines. One of his followers was james mill who had a son, john stuart mill, who would become the leading advocate of uilitarian moral theory for the next generaion. John stuart mill"s uilitarianism: main idea of the theory: We envision a certain state of afairs that we would like see come about.
