The process of graning rights can help us see why it is appropriate to grant such rights. Streams can"t speak but neither can corporaions. Guardians could act in the best interest of steams. Because they have their own good: things can go beter and worse for them, trees teleological centers = goal = deeply related to a good o this is what the guardian would do. Then they would atempt to do that good. Further, this can lead to a fuller and more complete form of life for man. Treaing nature as a tool, just a slaveholders once did, is self-stulifying. Two views: can be skepics regarding animal equality because either we privilege humans over non-human animals. Ex: it"s okay to eat meat : or because we hold that all species are equal, not just those that possess the capacity for senience. In some ways, the claim that all animals are equal is a middle ground in a larger debate.
