He was a half-breed" and was lower class (wasn"t a full lawyer yet) Leaves for us and ends up in st. paul by late 1867. In red river with his mom in st. vital by 1869. 1869- when canada is ready to take over the west. Able to read, and write both english and french. Well read, and very religious fits the bill for the leadership of metis community.
