Document Summary

There was a lot of resistance for first nations on reserves: most is non-violent, irritating level, resistance is done by people who have no other choice. Resistance can be done in many ways: can be subtle, covert, or overt (trick is to do it in such a way that you irritate the system, but don"t get caught) Leads ottawa to think that first nations are trouble makers: these make work jobs for the indian agent. Most canadians never saw this (they didn"t know what was happening on the reserve) Indian agent had to check everything: would continuously check the houses for things like: sweet grass, Ww ii leads to changes and indians are to be helped. War like this took on everyone, it was a big deal, and it changed things. The rules began to be sloughed off: since rules weren"t enforced as strongly, people would leave the reserve and join the army.
