First nations are still relevant but not necessarily the same first nations just first nations who can hunt furs: slow change of the fur trade turning bad. Dependence on trade goods develops stronger cultural changes: it is hard to go back to old ways of doing things. First nations committed to trade as long as furs hold out: they need the fur trade = without it there is disaster.
