FMLY 1010 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Replantation, 18 Months, Heredity
Document Summary
Infancy shown in 2 stages: basic trust vs. mistrust and autonomy vs. shame and doubt. According to evolutionary psychology and theology, many human behaviours represent successful adaptation to the environment. Some behaviours have made it more likely that people will reproduce and pass on their genes to following generations. Evolution psychology highlights the adaptive value of (cid:272)hildre(cid:374)"s behaviour at different points in development. Reattachment (birth-6/8 weeks)-infants rapidly learn to recognize their mothers by smell and sound. Attachment in the making (6/8 weeeks-8/8 months)-babies behave differently in the presence of familiar caregivers. True attachment (6/8 months-18 months)-the caregiver is now the infants stable socioemotional base. Reciprocal relationships (18 months on)-infants growing cognitive and language skills and their accumulated experience with caregivers make infants better able to act as true partners in the attachment relationship. First attachment develops between infant and mother, then soon with father.
