Document Summary

3 main traits of seed plants: heterosporous spore production. Produce dioecious gametophytes: unisexual, male and female gametophytes derived from male and female spores. Microsporangium, in the male sperm: gymno in the male cone, angio in the male anther, young microsporangia contain diploid cells going to go through process of meosis. Microsporocytes (2n) could be 1000"s , meiosis occurs a bunch of microspores which are (n) mitosis (produce more cells by division microgametophyte = pollen! (development is dependent on parent sporophyte. 2(n), megagametophyte is dependent on the parent sporophyte: receive all nutrition from the parent (pollen grain) = microgametophyte, ovule. 2 sperm are required one will unite with egg cells , diffuse with egg nucleus (2n) zygote. 2nd unites with the two polar nuclei to produce 3n ! Mitosis to produce a whole new tissue of 3n cells which are called endosperm. The endosperm stores nutrients but it does after fertilization. Only produced if there"s an embryo gymnosperm.
