Random genetic changes may improve individuals ability to survive and these changes may allow an individual to reproduce and produce fertile offspring. Darwin built his theory on a mountain of evidence **- some other theories are just presented without evidence. Individuals with certain heritable characteristics survive and reproduce at a higher rate than other individuals. Natural selection increases the adaptation of organisms to their environment over time.
