Document Summary

Early in the 20th century, the identification of the molecules of inheritance loomed as a major challenge to biologists. The hydrogens that branch off and can form hydrogen bonds. Sugar phosphate backbone the sugar is deoxyribose that connects to the nitrogenous bases, and a phosphate between the two sugars, that joins them together with an o its . Carbon 5 also joins to the next phosphate unit. The chain goes from 5" end to the 3" or 3" to 5". ^^thats a single strand, the dna molecule is double stranded. Not to be confused with chromosomes to be replicated, the dna molecule opens up. Maurice wilkins and rosalind franklan were using a technique called x-ray crystallography to study molecular structure, Franklin produced a picture of the dna molecule using this technique. Franklans x-ray crystallographic images of dna enabled watson to deduce that dna was helical and the width of the helix and the spacing of the nitrogenous bases.
