The co2 and h2o released by cellular respiration are converted through photosynthesis to glucose and o2 which are then used by respiration. Life on earth is solar powered and energy makes a one-way trip through an ecosystem. Breathing supplies o2 for use in cellular respiration and removes co2. An animal obtains o2 from its environment and releases co2 as a waste product. Breathing and cellular respiration are very similar but not the same. In breathing, co2 and o2 are exchanged between your lungs and the air.
