Naomi wolfe is responsible for sparking the third wave feminist movement. Beauty has been around as long as writen history. Plato focused on beauty, though in its most abstract form, as it applied to persons, arifacts and nature. In its modern sense (as a term applicable immediately and primarily to women and something they should be thinking about) began with the industrial revoluion. Intensiied over the next century and a half. Before the mid 19th century, most people lived with extended fam members in small agrarian communiies. Marriages were planned and normally not based on physical atracion. Unless a woman was aristocraic, her value in marriage was measured by her abiliies. Became detached from religious and tradiional values. Had to make their own friends and develop personality . Most relaionship were really just associaions based on exchange. Industrial revoluion also brought about a number of imagisic technologies. Photography (louis daguerre"s process, 1830/40) and cheap personal photography (kodak brownie 1900)
