Document Summary
Justice: justice moral assessment of good and bad things; assigning good and bad to people"s behaviour, to acts, to law, to decisions, distribution and retribution justice is achieved through distribution and retribution. Rejected this because under this idea, some people have to suffer for the greater good. Rawls did not believe in this because it"s not fair, how do we choose those who will suffer: strategies must be developed to serve the worst well off. Retributive justice: responding to wrongdoing when people break the law how do we do this in a fair and just way. Making things equal for all people, treating everyone equally under the law. Symbol of justice (lady justice: blindfold she cannot be influenced by the person being judged; cannot fall prey to prejudice or corruption. She"s not blind, she"s only blindfolded; the blindfold means that she"s not supposed to see the person and everyone will be treated the same when they get to court.
