Solidarity: not much that you would want to promote (positive) qualities. Study: paoline"s research on police occupational attitudes and culture. Using (cid:498)cluster analysis(cid:499) they find 7 different groups/clusters: traditionalists, law enforcers, old pros, peacekeepers, lay-lows, dirty harry enforces, anti-organization street cops. Traditionalists: despise the ongoing use of procedural guidelines. Unfavourable views of supervisors and procedural guidelines. Don"t think public would help: don"t see them being helpful when it comes to policing in general. But aren"t distrustful: (cid:498)crime fighters(cid:499, don"t like (cid:498)hold hands(cid:499) for the public. They only made up 9% of the sample, however. They want independence: uptight about the bureaucracy, small, but easy to identify on the virtue of their characteristics. Unfavourable views of supervisors (those above sergeant) Moderately accept order maintenance: crime fighting is really where it"s at. But favour procedure: in place for the benefit and embitterment of the officers themselves. Good relations with public: differentiates them from the other two.
