Week 4: canadian charter of rights and freedoms. Courtroom lawyers play a pivitol role in courtroom. Knowledge prosecutors rely heavily on police for information. They must have working knowledge of the courts and the charter. Prime duty (canadian bar association) not to gain convictions but to enforce the law. Being able to be an extra measure to look at and evaluate police conduct. Pressure convictions prosecutors are under pressure to gain as many convictions as possible. Two considerations: credibility maintaining administrative credibility we want to find people guilty, confidence to show that you know what you are doing and you know how to apply the law. Caseload pressure pressure for expediency over justice. Prosecutors will often drop cases because it will waste too much time. Screening leverage go through cases and choose the one"s where they know someone is guilty. Police do not charge or arrest all criminals.
