Media influence: how people perceive trials/criminal courts, less than 10% go to criminal court, very little surprise, most parties have a good idea of what is going to be presented, can usually be boring. Trials: only 10% end up in trial, 1999 about 7-8% go to court. Function of court: do(cid:374)"t ha(cid:448)e a(cid:374)(cid:455) i(cid:374) pla(cid:272)e fo(cid:396) adults, dependent on what model of justice ex. Rarely do we sit in the middle of them. Objective measures: as minor courts or major courts, bottom vs. superior courts. Bottom provincial courts, based on complexity of the issues, seriousness of the possible outcome, punishment or fine if it is extremely high. Aka superior courts, appeals court in every provinces. Supreme court of canada at the top. Indictable criminal cases, more serious, provincial appeals and final authority. Supreme court of canada: gets mandated through the entire country.
