Lecture 19 incarcerated youth thursday, march 22. Ycja tells us, we can see how important it becomes of sentencing: all parts of sentencing have a period of supervision. Two kids dating each other not allowed to communicate with each other. A policy was put into place where boys and girls aren"t allowed to mix. I wouldn"t say it"s a punishment model, it"s not restorative, i think it"s rehabilitative. They"re not confined to one place, they have their own bedrooms, can play instruments, draw, play sports, go on the computer, decorate and celebrate christmas, etc. Can record and listen to music, have talent show type celebrations: they are restricted in what they can wear though they mostly wear sweats. Every activity they do, they are monitored around the facility: the girl (diamond) doesn"t want to leave jail she feels safe there. She"s scared of failure once she gets out.
