Professor dawson (her ontario homicide & justice initiative) has been. This research produced the only individual-level homicide datasets that spans a significant period of time (approx. 40 years) allowing examination of trends and what factors/case characteristics determine various types of court outcomes. Before 1976 death penalty was possible in canada when abolished, Prior to 1976 there were 750 inmates serving life sentences this number replaced with mandatory life imprisonment with no parole eligibility for 25 years for 1st degree. For second between 10-25 years has increased 6-fold after 1976 and close to 100 offenders are added to this list each year.
