Document Summary
Abnormal behaviour= what the general public agrees to be abnormal, cultural consensus of what is abnormal or normal. Each culture has their own set of norms to a certain degree, even if it varies from culture to culture each does have a standard form of thinking. You"re usually considered normal if you are living a functional life= you go to school, have your family, have a job etc. Who decides what these norms are, who decides what is sad and what is depression etc. = there is power involved ( certain people have power over this) Psychologists measure normality by determining if something is making someone dysfunctional (i. e. depression can take over someone"s life whereas someone can still function normally and be sad) Psychoanalysis= unconscious (theoretical construction based on empirical observation, just like free will) symptom-formation, human nature, culture/instinctual wishes, and repression.
