Hershi social bond theory: argues that people obey rules because they are tied to conventional society by social bonds, social bonds: the degree to which an individual is integrated into the values and institutions of the community. Those with significant commitment have more to lose. Involvement: the degree to which an individual is active in conventional activities. Idle hands are the devil"s helper , the less you are doing, the more likely you will commit crimes: belief: the degree to which an individual believes in conventional values, morality, and the legitimacy of the law. Internalization of negative labels: self-concept is altered, master status, no longer seen as the person living a conventional life, label becomes who they are, self fulfilling prophecy , the key is societal reaction.
