But a common experience could turn a non group into a group- e. g. a power blackout. A small social group whose member share personal and lasting relationships. Cooley called this type of group primary b/c they: are the first groups we experience, shapes attitudes, behavior and identity, provide economic and other assistance, are bound by emotion and loyalty. Large impersonal groups whose members pursure specifi goal or activity. Ppl look to one another strategically (for what they can do for one anther) Part of a secondary group could turn itself into a primary group. Small circles of friends may have no leader at all. However large secondary groups place leaders in a formal chain of command.
