Status: a social position that a person holds. Social interaction: the process by which people act and react in relation to others. Each of us holds many statuses at once. The term status set refers to all of the statuses holds at a given time. Ascribed statuses are received at birth or taken on involuntarily later in life. Achieved statuses are taken on voluntarily and reflect personal ability and effort. Master status is a status that has exceptional importance for social identity, often shaping their entire life ex. Roles: behaviour expected of a person with a certain status. Role set: a number of roles attached to a certain status. Role conflict: conflict among the roles connected to two or more statuses. Role strain: tension between the roles connected to a single status. Role exit: people doubt their ability to continue in a role, imagine alternative roles and reach a tipping point when they decide to pursue a new life.
