Definition of sex: partly biological (chromosomes etc. ) but partly social (parents etc. ) West and zimmerman"s definition of sex: (in the article go find!) West and zimmerman"s definition of sex (as a category) refers to male and female as the only categories. Surgical interventions used to be common until the 1990"s. Doctors respond to it as a social emergency, they make the decision for the child (more often interventions result in females not confirmed)
