This was a cover in order to truly test the teacher"s obedience to taking orders from the researcher conducting the experiment and to the patient"s protests of wanting the teacher" to stop with the administering of shocks as punishment. Asking the subjects to be either teachers or learners and seeing what the effects of punishment from the teacher towards the learner. The teacher will read the learner a series of word pairs ie blue girl, yellow bird. The learner must then remember the correct word pair combination. If he gets the right answer there is no punishment. If he gets the answer wrong, the learner will receive a shock as punishment. The teacher will repeat the correct answer after the shock punishment. The strength of the voltage is under the teacher"s discretion. In reality, the shock was never transformed to the learner" during the experiment.
