The study of the ways in which institutionalized forms of discrimination operate in tandem in the lives of people (things that need to be included in our social institutions). The main identity categories are gender, race, class and ethnicities. In terms of work, a persons life chances and work outcomes might be seriously impacted. Core: the coronations have a level of control of the world"s wealth. They are in a more powerful historical position. (europe is the core here). Periphery (most impoverished, least amount of power of the world) Dependency theory: international develop and the underdeveloped world. What we are seeing here is great influence by marx. He talks about the world being interconnected (globalization, before the term was coined). Refers to an interconnected set of processes. Multinational corporations (no barriers to trades, free trade as they can move very easily to lower wage areas) Migrant workers (good idea to make more money)
