Themes: historical shifts in work through time, cross cultural variation, social in uences that impact on work, globalization, inclusions and exclusions, work and identity. The chapters assigned for this week are an over view of the themes we will be talking about in this course. Individuals are embedded within larger units of analysis. Technology and markets are shaped by social forces. Informal relations art work often stand at odds with formal expectations. Your in a workplace and your not supposed to talk (the formal expectation is when your at working you aren"t doing anything besides work) Organizational elites often bene t from a hierarchy of credibility . Theres kind of like people who are higher up in management are somehow perceived to be more accurate more intelligent more decreeable and if your not a good researcher then you would ask them what to do. Marx: con ict theory, radical politics, understand social change, historical materialism.
