Power exists in every way shape and form. Positional power (formal power): as a ceo you have extremely positional power the position you are in influences your legitimate power. Resources you control who gets it. Legitimate power based on person"s position/ formal authority. Reward power ability to provide positive outcomes and prevent negative outcomes. Coercive power use of punishment and threat. Referent power association with power holder; liked by others. Expert power retaining special information or expertise valued by others. Power is more likely to be established when you engage in activities that are: extraordinary, visible, relevant. Power is also increased when relationships are built with outsiders, subordinates, peers, and superiors.
