Big picture theorist: theory viewed as part of developmental biology. Epistemology is a branch of philosophy dealing with origins of knowledge: piaget tried to answer quesions originally raised by the philosopher immanuel kant. Where do basic categories of thought (ex. Piaget"s basic research quesion come from: how does intelligence (ex. Our understanding of reality is constructed and constantly changing as we adapt to our environment. Piaget emphasized: adapive, dynamic features of biological development but not staic maturaion, acive and interested organism who contributes to their own development.
