There are two dominant models in health psychology: biomedical model, biopsychosocial model. Idealism: there is only one substance, which is the mind. The biopsychosocial model: health & illness arise from interplay of factors: (essay 2, biological, psychological & behavioural, social, all of these aspect are influenced by the 3 above, factors interact in determining, onset of disease, progression, recovery. Social: viruses, bacteria, hormonal, cerebral lesions, genetics, class, ethnicity, education, employment, social support, behaviour beliefs, pain. Illness perceptions (for example: how perceptions of cancer has changed and if it should be something that is hidden: cognitive illusions, stress.
