PSYC 3100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Life History Theory, Meta-Analysis, Parental Investment
Document Summary
Homo sapiens including fitness and kin selection can let us see parental certainty in a new light. What we want is high probability of relatedness. Monogamy provides higher certainty of paternity than multi-mate systems condition for paternal parental investment: paternal certainty timeline, pair-bonding increased paternal, certainty increased parental care. Pair-bonding/monogamy probably evolved as a mating strategy: a response to pressures of polygyny on power value males, and not for the purpose of pi. A by-product of monogamy is increased parental certain which motivates increased pi on parts of males: mating opportunity. Attitudes: females: used kissing as info as whether or not to consider entering a relationship with the male, someone they wanted to mate with. Males: used it as a prelude to sex: if males increase the probability of their offspring"s survival their will be selection for pi. Secure attachment high parenting effort (secure strategies) Avoidant attachment high mating effort (instead of parenting) (avoidant strategies)
