A brief history of forensic psychology: responsible for punishment and rehabilitation: the criminal justice system (cjs) corresponds to problems within this system which are, each function of the cjs has limitations because (cid:494)justice(cid:495) is a human product. Asked 56 college students in psychology to recall things they had witnessed in their everyday lives. Results: student answers were often inaccurate, the relationship between participants accuracy and their confidence was far from perfect. Lawyers cite precedence: have knowledge about tings because people in authority or institutions tell them so, ex. if police and the courts have said stuff over the years then it is correct, ex. Common sense versus scientific knowledge: common sense approach to solving problems: An individual organizes the issues, rules out the unlikely factors, and selects the most acceptable answer because it fits the circumstances, or most completely accounts for the issue. Can be logical, illusory, contradictory, and inconsistent.
