Common themes of humanists: the central role of personal growth. Prime importance is placed on this theme. Rarely cease striving when our immediate needs are met aka always trying to better ourselves. Life problems may get in the way be we are still motivated to grow: the importance of openness to personal experience. Maslow describes openness as part of self-actualization and characteristics of healthy people. No one knows the person better than the person knows himself or herself. Behaviour is our perception of cultural or organic factors that wields the influence: living in the here and how. Essential to be attentive to the hear and now and not become preoccupied by the past or future lack of here and now can contribute to psychological distress: personal responsibility. Our behaviours are consciously made personal choices of what we want to do at a particular moment. People do have the power to become whatever they want.
