Way too much information to process at once, so we need to decide which are worth sending off into the short-term memory, and what sensory information is useless. To get information from sensory memory into short-term/working memory, we use attention. Can use a phonological loop (buffer): repeating information mentally inside your head this is good for remembering verbal information a good tactic for maintenance rehearsal. Limits: trying to remember too much information using this tactic typically causes you to forget the first bit of information (ex; a list of words) Visuo-spatial sketchpad (buffer): good for remembering visual information.
