PSYC 2650 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Speaker Types, The Alteration, The Delay
Document Summary
Unit 5 ch 6: the acquisition of memories and the working-memory system. Clive wearing: was an accomplished musician and scholar of renaissance music. Then he developed a herpes virus that affected his memory greatly. He was still able to talk normally but could not remember things that happened recently. He would hug his wife when she entered the room as if he hasn"t seen her for years when she was just in the room 2 minutes ago. Acquisition: process of getting info and placing it into memory: once acquired, you need to hold it in memory until it is needed ie the storage phase. Finally, you retrieve the information ie somehow locate it where it is stored. In an effective way? (memory): evidence suggests that what is good learning depends on how the memory is to be used later on, ie prep for one kind of use may be poor prep for a different use.
