Post- transcriptional regulation of gene expression: micro and other regulatory rna"s. Transcript cannot be translated into a protein which results in less protein being produce. Sometimes there is an overproduction or underproduction of proteins. By isolating a certain micro rna, you are able to target the protein and see the behavioral effects resulted from this. A change in a phenotype that is heritable but does not involve dna mutation. The change in phenotype can be heritable even if initial conditions that caused the switch disappear. If the epigenetic change is in germline cells (sperm and eggs) it will be heritable across generations. An example of a same set of genes being expressed differently over a life cycle would be a caterpillar to a butterfly. Care of mother toward her offspring will effect how the child will be when they grow up. More nurturing and attentive, the less anxious and stressed the offspring will be.
