PSYC 2390 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Apparent Viscosity, Corrugated Box Design, Shear Rate

35 views1 pages

Document Summary

Viscosity of the fluid increases (becomes thicker) as shear rate increases. Apparent viscosity refers to the viscosity of non-newtonian food materials of both shear-thinning and shear-thickening types. The former decreased in apparent viscosity as shear rate increases, while the latter increase: rheopectic behaviour refers to time-dependent shear thickening, which however is rarely seen in food materials. Food packaging: a primary package is the packaging material that comes in direct contact with the food product it is surrounding. For example the slightly opaque plastic packaging containing your cereal is the primary package, while the cardboard box is the secondary package. The other two types of package components, tertiary, and quaternary, have to do with food shipping and distribution activities: a corrugated box, or shipping container, serves as the most common form of tertiary package. The job of the tertiary container is to hold a group products together for ease in shipping. However, boxes are not trapsorted one at a time.
