Allow the subject to adjust the (light/sound: method of adjustment, method of constants. Take a range of intensities (5 to 9) Give 100 trails for each intensity (6 intensities -600 trials) Do those trials in a random order, so the person will not expect it. Measure the percentage of time the person says the see/hear it. The absolute threshold is the intensity seen 50% of the time.
