Science,322, 606 607: researchers examined the association between physical warmth and attitudes of interpersonal warmth by examining whether holding a hot cup of coffee (vs. a cold cup) would influence perceptions of another person. Those who held the hot cup rated the other person"s personality more favorably. Another study found that those who held a warm (vs. cold) therapeutic pad were more likely to choose a gift for a friend rather than take one for themselves: li, y. , johnson, e. j. , & zaval, l. (2011). Local warming: daily temperature change influences belief in global warming. Not possible in this study as there cannot be a 0 temperature group. For example, the researchers may not anticipate which of the following comparisons is most important: hot versus cold; hot versus average; average versus cold. These analyses are called post-hoc tests because we carry them out if the anova shows a significant difference among the levels of the independent variable.
