Simulus discriminaion procedures: establish control by the simuli that signal when reinforcement is and is not available. Discriminaive simuli: are those that have gained control over an individual"s behaviour. Simulus generalizaion: responding to test simuli that are diferent from the cues that were present during training. Responding to physically to disinct simuli as if they were the same because of common prior experiences with the simuli: criical for patern formaion, oten implicit, paricularly important for those that have diiculty without these implicit heurisics. Relexivity: individual matches simulus to itself in absence of training, a = a. Symmetry: without training individual reverses the match, a = b, b = a. Transiivity: learner can match untrained examples, a = b and b = c, then a = c. Already had an encounter and are trying to get away. Touching a hot stove and geing away: avoidance. Rodent in a chamber that has a hurdle in the middle separaing the two sides.
