Brenda milner -> ex wife of peter milner; most important in surgery and is canadian. In 1933, henry m. had a bicycle accident and was unconscious for 5 min. Three years later he began to have minor seizures. By 21, he would have 10 minor attacks per day and 1 major per week. Extreme neuropathology, epileptic, impossible to have a normal life. In 1953 (henry was 27), dr. scoville performed a bilateral medial temporal lobe (beside the ears) resection. * view the photo of the brains in the slides -> hm was missing the part that was intact with his ears. He got rid of the hippocampus on both sides. H. m. memory disorder was selective in five important ways. Discovers what hm could do and learn: higher-order perceptual, motor, and cognitive functions not affected. Above average iq - recognizes and names common objects - normal language a memory deficit and that"s it, it is specific.
