Self is who we are, the notion of self concept and self knowledge (i am introverted, i am scared of heights) the known . Self awareness (being aware of myself, ability to reach into your memories and say who you are) the knower . Functions of selfhood: self is an interpersonal tool, helps you to connect with other people, self makes choices, self regulation. Self comparison (comparison to others and comparison to past versions of yourself) Infants have self awareness but they do not have self knowledge. Self-knowledge is obtained from others but it is heavily ltered through biases from others: *our lack of tendency to hear and process criticism. *yes: autobiography writers, they think they know themselves better than anyone else. *self concept is the most complete form of knowledge imaginable. * psychoanalysts say no though, they say that self concept is very hard to obtain.
