People from collectivistic cultures tend to conform more than individualistic cultures. Conformity is lower amongst the student population then it is for the general public. When people are part of the group that involves identifying with that group, there is some level of intergroup connection. Hunting and gathering societies and upper social segments of industrial societies, are low in conformity (triandis, 1994). People from upper class tend to lead rather than follow. Agricultural societies and lower social segments of industrial societies are high in conformity (triandis, 1994).
