Ambiguity of defining mentally healthy or ill. A person may just believe that he is sad instead of depressed. We do not want to see ourselves as mentally ill. Trick others and ourselves into seeing us as mentally healthy. Half of canadians said that they would not socialize with a friend who had serious mental illness. 25% said they are afraid to be around people who have serious mental illness. Strong stigma is associated with mental illnesses and people can be affected. Men are expected to be independent and strong, less likely to seek help.
