PSYC 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Conditioned Taste Aversion, Nucleus Accumbens, Operant Conditioning Chamber
Document Summary
The process of acquiring new and relatively enduring information or behaviours. Classical conditioning: learning to expect and prepare for events. Operant conditioning: learning to repeat actions to obtain rewards or avoid punishment. (b. f. Reinforcement: a process in which an event or reward that follows a response increases the likelihood of that response occurring again. Positive reinforcement: presenting a rewarding stimulus after a response. Negative reinforcement: presenting an unpleasant stimulus after a response. Reinforcer: a stimulus that is contingent upon a response, and that increases the probability of that response occurring again. Punishment: a process that decreases the future probability of a response. Punisher: a stimulus that is contingent upon a response, and that results in a decrease in behaviour. He was working with his dogs and their dietary tracks and accidentally discovered classical conditioning in dog salivary response. The unconditioned stimulus (food) causes an unconditioned response (dog salivation). A neutral stimulus (bell) will cause no response.
